The softball team, along with the girls basketball team and the wrestling team from Westlake High School were recognized on Tuesday, May 7th, 2002 for having the highest GPA in their respective sports in the Southern Section of the CIF. There are 560 schools in the CIF. With an aggregate grade point average of 3.582 the softball team is the best in the large school division.
To honor the award the team was introduced in a pre-game ceremony at Edison Field before the game between the Anaheim Angels and the Detroit Tigers.
